(HealthNewsDigest.com) - We are seeing an upward trend of more men seeking out and receiving cosmetic surgery procedures. This is mainly due to the fading of the cultural taboo that used to surround men receiving cosmetic procedures.

We do live in a society where youth and attractiveness are held in high regard, and this may also be a factor as to why more and more men undergoing cosmetic procedures.

Also, men are seeking treatments not only for vanity reasons, but to help them remain competitive in the job arena. Men find that they must look younger and more in shape in order to continue climbing the corporate ladder. Statistics from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery show that the number of men undergoing cosmetic surgery treatments increased approximately 106% between the years of 1997 and 2012. One of the possible reasons for this tread may rest on the 2008 financial recession during which time many men had to rethink their images.

Popular Cosmetic Procedures for Men

Because of this need to compete in the marketplace, one of the most popular procedures men seek is called the "Forbes Facelift". This procedure is a combination of an eyelift, jawline contouring, and a neck lift. In addition to this facelift procedure, men are also undergoing liposuction and body contouring for a sleeker slimmer look.

Other procedures that are popular among men include eyelid surgery, ear shaping, gynescomastia (removal of excess breast tissue), and laser hair removal.

Who Undergoes Cosmetic Procedures?

Interestingly, four "types" or groups of men have been loosely identified who seek cosmetic surgery procedures. The first group is called the "male model", who seeks procedures to accentuate the pectoral and abdominal areas, as well as jawline augmentation and gluteal implants.

Similar to the model, the "body builder" wants a more muscular look. The third category is the "CEO or Board Member". This gentleman is at the height of his career and may want to feel younger and more confident, and seeks procedures to help him look the part. This group of men are those that often seek the "Forbes Facelift" procedure.

Then there is the "athletic dad", who seeks what is known as the "daddy do-over", which can include jawline contouring, liposuction, and a light eyelid lift.

With the increasing number of men seeking plastic surgery, the taboos that were once in place are sure to fade quickly into the past.
