(HealthNewsDigest.com) - CHICAGO – January 26, 2012 – The American Medical Association (AMA) and AARP today released a “Team Up to Stay Healthy” brochure to help seniors receive the preventive services that are now covered by Medicare.

“The AMA is proud to join with AARP to help seniors take advantage of the health services now covered by Medicare,” said AMA President Peter W. Carmel, M.D. “This brochure clearly explains these covered services so patients can make more informed health care decisions with their physicians.”

With the passage of the Affordable Care Act, physicians now have more opportunities to help their Medicare patients receive preventive services. The free brochure explains the types of physician visits covered by Medicare in clear, simple language and gives patients an overview of common preventive screenings.

The brochure helps patients prepare for their physician visits by explaining what to expect, what to bring and what to ask their physician. It also offers patients access to additional information and helpful resources about their covered services. Patients can download and print the brochure in English at http://www.ama-assn.org/resources/doc/public-health/ama-aarp-brochure.pdf and in Spanish at http://www.ama-assn.org/resources/doc/public-health/ama-aarp-brochure-spanish.pdf.

Physicians can order bundles of brochures to distribute to their patients by visiting http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/physician-resources/public-health/promoting-healthy-lifestyles/preventive-care-patient-brochure-request.page. For more information about preventive service CPT codes, physicians can visit http://www.ama-assn.org/go/preventive-services .
