A widely known leader in the field of gastroenterology, Dr. Pochapin is highly respected for his dedication to the advancement of medical research and the provision of excellence and compassion in patient care. He is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. Dr. Pochapin is Director of the Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health. He also currently serves as Chief of Gastroenterology Endoscopy and Associate Attending Physician at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
In his patient practice, Dr. Pochapin specializes in gastrointestinal endoscopy, and focuses on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. As a researcher, his present projects include the study of the prevention of colorectal polyps; early identification and staging of pancreatic cancer; and use of probiotics for irritable bowel disease, Clostridium difficile infection, postoperative infection, and the common cold.
Dr. Pochapin has received numerous awards, including the Elliot Hochstein Teaching Award for "the qualities of compassion, skill, and distinction as a physician and teacher" and the Humanism in Medicine Award in recognition of "compassion, sensitivity, respect, and cultural competence in the delivery of care to patients and their families."
A member of several medical and gastroenterology professional organizations and the author of numerous manuscripts and two book chapters, Dr. Pochapin continues to publish and to make seminar and public appearances to promote excellence and compassion in the prevention, early detection, and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.
