(HealthNewsDigest.com) - JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 4, 2016 -- Veterans with service-connected health issues receive instant relief as Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) hits a huge milestone, securing more than $200 million in monetary benefits for wounded servicemen and women since the inception of its Benefits Service program in 2007. With long-term financial and medical support playing a critical empowerment role in the recovery process, WWP created the Benefits Services program, helping injured veterans navigate the complexities of the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to obtain the care they need.

With a success rate above 85 percent, WWP reaches into local communities through a variety of events, filing thousands of claims each year and immediately changing the lives of injured veterans, their families, and caregivers. Benefits Claim Day is one of the events gaining traction across the nation as an innovative collaboration between WWP and the VA.

"Wounded Warrior Project is breaking through organizational boundaries and putting the injured veteran first," said John Roberts, executive vice president of WWP Warrior Relations. "This is an innovative event that places a veteran face-to-face with a WWP staff member and the VA representative who impacts the outcome of their claim."

The success of the WWP Benefits Service program lies in its efforts to ensure claims are filed and processed correctly - the first time.

"WWP staff works individually with injured veterans to understand their unique needs, provide information and education on the claims process, advise them of benefit options, file benefit claims, and help to obtain necessary evidence," said Roberts. "The staff stays connected with these heroes through the entire claim lifecycle."

Wounded Warrior Project serves more than 100,000 injured service members, their caregivers, and families - more than 2,400 registered Alumni received assistance through the Benefits Support program in February 2016, securing more than $70 million in veterans' benefits dollars. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/programs/benefits-service.aspx
