NEW IN THE MARKET -- Grapple Grape Flavored Apples
Mar 25, 2012 - 7:03:00 AM
I love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in my kitchen. See what you think.
(HealthNewsDigest.com) - Every so often a new food product is introduced that is not only healthy, but just plain fun. Grapple apples are exactly that.
Grapple apples start as either Washington State Gala or Fuji apples. Using a patented process the apples are gently bathed in a 100% food grade grape flavor solution. We are not talking about bubble gum artificial grape flavor. The apples both smell and taste of a delicate, subtle Concord grape flavor. You crunch into the apple while experiencing a mild grape smell and taste. The grape flavor does not overpower the original apple but blends with it in taste and texture for a mouthful of fun. Kids will love these apples.
The process of adding the grape flavor does not add any sugar, calories or carbs. The apples are not genetically altered, simply infused with aroma and flavor. The flavor process is gluten free. Washing the apple before eating does wash away the added flavor. One medium (6 ounce) Grapple apple has: 95 calories; no fat, cholesterol, protein or sodium; 25 grams of carb (including 19 grams of natural sugar from the apple and 4 grams of fiber); 100 milligrams of vitamin A; and 8 milligrams of vitamin C. This nutrition profile is similar to any medium fresh apple.
You will find Grapple apples in the supermarket in polybags or plastic clamshells in packages of 4. Because of the flavor enhancement, the apples technically fall under the definition of a processed food and must be labeled and packaged for sale. They cannot be sold loose. This product is definitively worth a try.
