(HealthNewsDigest.com) - NEW YORK—Health-care stocks soared on hopes that Congressional legislation may be subject to new compromises following Tuesday's special election in Massachusetts, pushing up the broader U.S. market.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was recently up 77 points, or 0.7%, at 10687, putting it on track for its fourth gain in five sessions. The Dow's health-care components led its gainers, with Merck jumping 3% and Pfizer up 2.3%. Kraft Foods led the measure's decliners, off 2.6% after it clinched a deal to acquire Cadbury in a trans-Atlantic tie-up that ends the nearly 200-year independence of Britain's most famous candy company.
