( - Nasal flaws are not created equal. Neither are the treatments the plastic surgery industry creates for them. When the patient's nose defect is severe, as in the presence of a large hump or bump atop the nasal bridge, surgery is usually the correct solution. In less severe cases, however, all that may be needed is a modest "tweak" with the aid of soft tissue dermal fillers.

A Liquid Rhinoplasty, aka the Liquid Nose Job, is a non-surgical solution for mild to moderate nasal flaws that manifest as small bumps, depressions, and indentations. The procedure is designed to reshape the nose using injectable fillers instead of a surgeon's scalpel and sutures.

While liquid rhinoplasty cannot make the nose smaller or straighten a bent or crooked nose, it is quite effective at getting rid of minor imperfections of the nose that have been making you self-conscious. It's an excellent temporary solution for moderate saddle nose, for example.

The Liquid Lineup

The tools the plastic surgeon uses to perform liquid rhinoplasty include a hypodermic needle and syringe packed with a soft tissue injectable. Popular dermal fillers include Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane, Radiesse, Artefill, Aquamid, and other hyaluronic acid fillers. With care and precision the doctor injects the filler deep into the subcutaneous skin layers of the nose to smooth away imperfections or to increase the angle of the nasal tip or elevation of the nose.

Liquid rhinoplasty is considered a cosmetic augmentation procedure. As such, the results are not permanent. The procedure also is not designed to improve nasal function, which is best accomplished with surgery. The good thing about liquid rhinoplasty is that the results can be modified or undone within 24 hours if a hyaluronic acid filler is used.

This makes liquid rhinoplasty nearly perfect for making natural-looking adjustments to the nose. There is no downtime and only a minimal risk of complications.

A Question of Facial Balance

The nose is the most central feature and the first thing that people notice, which is why it's important that the impression we make isn't a concave one on the tip of the nose. Surgical rhinoplasty is a permanent solution for severe cosmetic or functional nose flaws; however, if a minor nose imperfection has been causing you distress, liquid rhinoplasty could be the perfect liquid lunchtime procedure for you.
