Candela SmoothBeam Laser
If you have moderate to severe acne on your face or back, the smooth beam laser is ideal. This laser treatment helps stimulate new collagen to improve the skin tone, while also improving texture. It goes to work below the skin's surface, so you may experience swelling after a treatment.
Candela SmoothBeam laser treatments take up to an hour to complete. You need three to five treatments before you'll see the results. Do not undergo a treatment if you've been using Retin A or have a sunburn. Following your treatment, make sure you wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Swelling is common for the first one or two days.
Fractionated CO2 Laser
Using carbon dioxide, the fractionated CO2 laser has been used since the 1990s. It works by creating tiny dots with the laser that then take two to seven days to heal. Within these laser-targeted areas, collagen production kicks into high gear and wrinkles disappear as the skin tightens.
Prior to your treatment, you must take anti-viral medications and antibiotics. You may or may not need anesthesia, depending on how many passes the laser needs to make. Following a treatment, apply Aquaphor to your face to help keep the skin moisturized while it heals. You need three to five days without makeup, so you may not want to return to work during that time. Redness may take a few weeks to disappear.
Non-ablative lasers like GentleLase are useful in removing hair from your armpits, face, legs, pubic area, and other areas where hair growth is unwanted. Whether you want to clear up a bikini line or remove unsightly hair from your arms, this laser can help.
There are a few things to understand about laser hair removal, however. The process works best on dark hair, and it's best on people with light or fair skin tones. Before laser hair removal, make sure you avoid using any skincare products in the treatment area. That means skip the lotions and makeup on the day of your laser treatment. You also need to shave the area prior to the treatment. It takes about an hour to treat most areas, but facial hair is usually treated in 15 minutes. You do need to return for additional laser treatments every four to six weeks.
V-Beam or Pulsed Dye Laser
The pulsed dye laser is the optimal choice for treating certain skin conditions, such as rosacea, and removing scars. Dr. Edwin Williams of the Williams Center Plastic Surgery Specialists came up with a breakthrough use of the pulsed dye laser when he discovered the laser can treat bruising that occurs following many cosmetic surgeries and the injections of Botox Cosmetic and dermal fillers. In his tests, bruises vanished within a day or two.
After a pulse dye laser treatment, you can get back to your routine without any delay. The treatments do not require any anesthesia, so you return to work or social activities the same day.
