(HealthNewsDigest.com) - The World Conference on Breast Cancer is a 5-day event that brings together survivors, advocates, healthcare professionals and researchers from all over the world. Delegates benefit from interactive workshops, conference speakers, and poster presentations. The conference provides the opportunity to participate and learn about aspects of breast cancer research, diagnosis, treatment, support, prevention, outreach and education. It builds and strengthens international networks concerned with breast cancer while advancing global action in the fight against breast cancer.

This year, the 5th World Conference on Breast Cancer will also focus on two new populations - men and youth. While the vast majority of breast cancer affects women, approximately 1% of all breast cancers occur in men. Breast cancer that develops in men is often associated with a hereditary factor thus making it important to all family members. This conference will inform and educate about important risk factors for women and men as well as treatment and genetic testing options.

WCBCF has also worked with a youth advisory committee to create an interactive based youth program that utilizes research evidence that focuses on lifestyle behaviours that show promising results in reducing the chance of developing breast cancer. Youth from across Canada and other countries are also considering attending this international conference.

Featured speakers include Dr. Annie J. Sasco is an MD PhD, team leader of Epidemiology for Cancer Prevention in an Inserm (NIH) research unit at the medical school of the Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2 University in France and Dr.

William Foulkes, Director of the Program in Cancer Genetics and directs clinical cancer genetics services at the McGill University Health Centre and the Sir Mortimer B. Davis-Jewish General Hospital.
