(HealthNewsDigest.com) - Surgery apparently loves company. That's the anecdotal consensus of many plastic surgeons who have reported a significant increase in the number of mother and daughter cosmetic surgery "duets." The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reported a 34 percent increase in the number of people getting surgery with a partner in 2008.

Doctors don't consider the trend unusual or negative. If mom has a sagging neck, odds are her daughter will develop the same problem over time. So, why not fix mom's neck droop and prevent her daughter's at the same time.

It's a Family Affair

Cosmetic duet surgery - rhinoplasty (aka Nose Job), for example - doesn't only mean double the earnings potential for the performing surgeon. Rather, it's a perfect way for the surgeon to see how mother and daughter interact in private consultation. How they interact reveals many important family traits and dynamics which may be extremely useful to the surgeon in designing separate procedures. Do they quibble over the smallest details? Does the daughter really want the exact same results as mom's - within the realm of surgical probability, of course.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Most parents know only too well that, in the eyes of their teenage children, they are so uncool. So, why would a middle-aged daughter want to go under the knife with mom and come out looking more alike? It's because children as they grow up learn to appreciate their parents and realize how alike they truly are in so many ways. Wanting to have the appearance of mom's nose at 40 is the finest form of flattery to a mother.

The Family that Sticks Together

The cosmetic surgery duet is a great way for parent and child to bond in the face of joint surgery. No matter how many times the doctor tries to assure the patient of the safety of the procedure, there is always that nagging "what if" that sticks in the back of the mind. Some moms and daughters actually hold hands while having cosmetic surgery. That's a powerful form of reassurance from a truly caring support network.

A Nose Job in Your Holiday Stocking?

What better way to share the spirit of the holidays than when mom and daughter share the gift of plastic surgery?  And what better way to ring in 2014 than with a mother and daughter resolving together to improve their individual appearance and boost their self-confidence by having joint rhinoplasty, a facelift, maybe even a brow lift or Botox? Tis' the season. The more, the merrier.
