Rhinoplasty: A New Look in the New Year
Dec 23, 2013 - 2:20:30 PM
While rhinoplasty is often considered an elective procedure, it is necessary in some cases to alleviate any breathing problems that may have been caused by a nasal injury or deformity. It is a common cosmetic procedure that some people consider because an injury or aging may have changed the shape of their nose or they may simply be unhappy with the nose they were born with.
If a person has already had a rhinoplasty in New Jersey in the past but is dissatisfied with the result, then they would be a candidate for a revision rhinoplasty. This procedure is designed to improve upon the previous results or address functional or aesthetic concerns which may have occurred. Both primary and revision rhinoplasty can boost a person's self-esteem and confidence.
Most people in good health are considered candidates for the procedure. As with any plastic surgery in New Jersey, it is important to have realistic expectations regarding the results of the procedure. The way your nose looks is something that is unique to you and it should complement and enhance your personal appearance as opposed to fulfilling someone else's expectations. People of different ethnic backgrounds should be careful to select a surgeon with particular expertise in ethnic rhinoplasty.
The rhinoplasty surgery in New Jersey often requires the use of general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has been applied, the surgeon will make an incision on the strip of skin between the nostrils on the underside of the nose (open rhinoplasty) or on the inside of the nose (closed rhinoplasty). Working through the incisions, the surgeon will sculpt the cartilage to achieve the desired results. After that has been done, the surgeon will re-drape skin over the nose and close the incision. The patient will usually be able to return home after the procedure and the nose will be bandaged to help the area heal. It will usually take one week to recover from the procedure and return to daily activities. The results of the surgery will be immediately noticeable, but it can take up to a year for residual swelling to completely resolve and show the full effects of the surgery.
