(HealthNewsDigest.com) - As we get older we become more and more aware of our appearance. Another point also dawns upon us that no matter how much we try, certain features will simply refuse to look any better and can grow worse with every passing day. This is most likely the result of the ageing process.

Collagen is a protein in our body that provides elasticity to the skin tissues however, as we age the amount of collagen produced by the body decreases. This causes the skin to appear saggy and droop down. In addition to the skin sagging, fatty tissues and connective tissues under the skin also begin to lose their integrity and droop.

However, as fast as the looks might be depreciating the self-confidence and self-esteem go down quicker. It is not uncommon for people to become extremely distressed and feel depressed with their appearances.

A game changer for the better

Even though time cannot be reversed, it can be made to appear so with plastic surgery. Face lift surgeries are delicate and artistically meticulously carried out to strategically alter the appearance to reduce the signs of ageing. Not many plastic surgeons can perform a convincing transformation of their patients, even if they have the qualifications.

However, one of the few who bring extensive experience along with a number of qualifications is Dr. Ross Clevens. Not only does Dr. Clevens head a revered clinic for plastic surgery, he also takes active part in charitable organizations. He offers his reconstructive surgical services as a form of charity. Services provided at his clinic range from face lifts to laser skin resurfacing, among other procedures.

Face lift consultation and procedure

Before you engage in any form of surgery, aesthetic or otherwise, the chances are you will want to learn as much as possible about the procedure. After all, surgery can be worrisome at the best of times. If you chose to get a facelift, the initial stage would include a consultation session in which the patient describes what they wish for in the procedure.

Dr. Clevens would evaluate the desire of the patient against the variables including the skin type, the expectations, the medical background and the precautions. As all skin types are different and have different healing and recovery properties, a realistic expectation is developed in the patient. After the patient is educated in the process their own situation and the possible outcomes they make a decision whether to have a mini face lift or a full one.

Procedures

A mini face lift consists of an incision made under the chin to pull the skin tighter. This decreases the visibility of some wrinkles and sagging skin around the chin, neck, and jaw line. However, if the patient requires a more complete treatment, the full face lift can be performed. This requires the patient to be intravenously sedated and local anesthesia administered with a syringe.

Incisions are made along the hair line of the face, around the ears and under the chin, if necessary. Excessive fatty tissue, connective tissues and skin are removed, while some of the fat is repositioned under the skin to create natural looking contours. After all excess is removed, the skin is carefully stitched back together where the incisions were made.

After care

The face and head will be bandaged to hold the sutures in place and prevent aggregation to the closings. Pain killers will most likely be prescribed to manage the inflammation and pain from the operation. The recovery process will naturally take some time, however, the rewards for this are an appearance that is ten to fifteen years younger.
