FDA Approves CoolSculpting for Fat Removal of the Thighs

How does CoolSculpting it Work?
The CoolSculpting procedure allows patients to non-surgically remove fat by simply cooling a targeted area. The magic of this procedure lies behind the applicator containing ZELTIQ's Cool SmoothTM technology. This applicator does not involve any breaking of the skin and brings little to no pain to the patient. It is essentially a suction with a cooling system. As the bulge of fat is suctioned, it enters the cooling panels and the area becomes numb. The fat cells within the targeted area are then cooled and brought to a natural death. The cooling only impacts fat cells due to their increased sensitivity when compared to surrounding tissues and muscle. The applicator is applied to the targeted area for approximately 1-3 hours and then gently removed. What's left is mild burning sensation that quickly wears off as the cooled area acclimates. Over the period of a few weeks the body naturally removes the dead fat cells, resulting in a removal of unwanted fat. In a clinical study, nearly 90% of patients were satisfied with results just after one treatment.
Since the CoolSculpting procedure requires no needles or breaking of the skin, no downtime is required. While some patients experience temporary bruising, redness, numbness, soreness, or tingling, patients are able to resume everyday activities immediately after the procedure.
Unlike most common fat removal procedures, CoolSculpting has no downtime, involves virtually no pain without the use of anesthesia, and requires absolutely no breaking of the skin. Now that it is also FDA approved for the thigh area in addition to the flank and abdomens, patients have the perfect non-surgical solution to say goodbye to stubborn fat that just does not seem to go away.
