Breast Reduction Frees Twin Sisters
Jun 26, 2012 - 3:16:21 PM

( - Long Branch, NJ--June 26, 2012 - Twins Tanesha and Tiwan Sweet spent their whole lives in physical and emotional pain. It began in middle school, with constant teasing, and continued with even their efforts to take a walk on the beach as adults. All because of their breast size.

“We got sexually harassed. We couldn’t even walk on the beach without men calling out to us, even from car windows.” Consequently, whether at the beach, a department store or the gym, they never went anywhere without being covered by large shirts.

They were always large-breasted, but surgery in their early 30’s seemed to exacerbate the problem. They eventually reached a 40G bra size. This caused a variety of physical as well as the emotional difficulties. They suffered back spasms and arthritis in the neck, among other consequences.

The 42-year-olds from Long Branch, NJ, began to consider breast reduction after a cousin had the surgery, and another friend who had it, “set the tone even more,” says Tanesha. Tanesha, a psychiatric technician at Riverview Medical Center, found Dr. Russell Ashinoff online. She and Tania, a rehab technician at Health South in Tinton Falls, NJ, went to the consultation at The Plastic Surgery Center together. Tanesha had the surgery first, followed some weeks later by her sister.

Dr. Ashinoff removed 3 pounds of breast tissue from each of Tiwan’s breasts, and 2.5 pounds from each of Tanesha’s. Both of the twin sisters are thrilled with the results.

According to Dr. Ashinoff, “Many women suffer for years with problems caused by large breasts and are unaware that options exist to alleviate these issues and improve their quality of life. The physical and emotional pains that are caused by this problem can be, and often are, debilitating to a great number of women. I have performed this surgery many times and the phrase that I hear most often is, "I wish I had done this sooner."

“We had great care. Dr. Ashinoff’s manner is wonderful,” says Tanesha, who was assisting her sister a few days after her surgery at the time of this writing. Tanesha praises the nursing staff (one of her nurses had gone through breast reduction surgery herself, which helped) and the caring follow-up of Dr. Ashinoff.
“Shopping used to be a ‘no.’ But we’re definitely looking forward to it now.” That, she says, “and also a walk on the beach.”
