(HealthNewsDigest.com) - NEW YORK
Oct. 5, 2016 -- As cool weather approaches, people become not only aware, but vocal about their various aches and pains. But what about our pets, who can't vocalize about their pain? Pain in pets has now been recognized by veterinary medical professionals as a treatable condition. This led Assisi Animal Health to help bring attention to the need for pet owners to play a more active role in recognizing the symptoms of pain in their pets and to seek veterinary care when needed.

According to the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, IVAPM, the most common signs of pain in pets are:

  • Decreased activity
  • Reluctance to jump up onto surfaces (this especially applies to cats)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Not going up or down stairs
  • Difficulty standing after lying down

"I have been using the Assisi Loop on my pets since it came on the market. I wouldn't be without it," saidAnne Marie Kubacz, a veterinary technician for the past 41 years and Health Chairman of the Irish Setter Club of America. "I could tell my 13-year-old dog was in pain because she was less active, which is a common sign of pain that a lot of pet owners don't recognize. Once we used the Assisi Loop, she was much more mobile, she got up and down more easily than she had before."

"Assisi is helping to educate pet owners on the signs of pain in their pets in order to make pet lives more comfortable and enjoyable," said Deidre Chiaramonte, DVM, DACVIM, CCRT, CVA, Director of Clinical Studies at Assisi Animal Health. "Once a pet owner is able to recognize the signs of pain in their pet, our products can be used to take a proactive role in their pet's recovery."

Products like the Assisi Loop®, an NPAID® (Non-Pharmaceutical Anti-Inflammatory Device) that uses FDA-cleared technology, give pet owners the opportunity to manage and treat their pet's pain at home. The Loop is prescribed by veterinary professionals to treat orthopedic injuries, degenerative neurological conditions, post-surgical pain and swelling, osteoarthritis and other inflammatory conditions and wounds.

Today, the company introduced the ASSISI-HERO LOOP-AID® Torso Wrap, the first product in its accessory line. The wraps are targeted at enhancing treatment when using the Assisi Loop.  The Torso Wrap is a lightweight, durable garment the Loop attaches to during treatment. Through the Torso Wrap's adjustable Velcro attachments, the Loop can be easily secured to treat a pet's different areas of need.

Designed by Ben Blecha, CPO, who is Hero Braces' Orthotist, the Torso Wrap was developed to assist in compliance with veterinarians' instructions, offer convenience for the pet owners and allow mobility for the pet during treatments.

The Wrap comes in seven sizes, ranging from XXS-XL, and has a size specifically for long-low breeds that frequently suffer from severe back issues.  Made of 87 percent nylon and 13 percent spandex, the Torso Wrap is washable and dries quickly on a flat surface.

The ASSISI-HERO LOOP-AID Torso Wrap is available for purchase through the Assisi online store atwww.assisianimalhealth.com.
