Fully Digital Aisys Carestation Provides Innovative Technology in the U.S ; First Ultrasound System to Combine Images and Controls on a Single Touchscreen Monitor Launches on Compact LOGIQ e

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - ORLANDO, FLA, -- GE Healthcare announced today it will showcase digital anesthesia care technology this week at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual meeting, October 20-22 in Orlando, Florida.

Aisys Carestation: A Digital Advantage Solution

The Aisys® Carestation® – Digital Advantage Solution is a fully digital anesthesia delivery system with an upgradeable software platform designed to keep pace with the evolving needs of today’s demanding healthcare environment. It offers Vigilance, Integrated data management, and Precision (V.I.P.), adding an element of simplicity without sacrificing safety or quality. Aisys Carestation appeals to anesthesiologists and healthcare professionals seeking an innovative anesthesia delivery system that helps meet their current requirements and potential future needs.

GE Healthcare introduced the Pressure Controlled Ventilation-Volume Guaranteed (PCV-VG) to the operating room with PCV-VG mode on GE’s Aisys Carestation at ASA 2006. This mode delivers all the benefits of Pressure Control ventilation at the same time it provides a consistent tidal volume.

“A fully digitalized anesthesia delivery system such as Aisys is innovative in the United States, “ said Thierry Leclercq, Vice President and General Manager, GE Healthcare’s Life Support Solutions, “ and marks a new direction for anesthesia delivery of the future. The digital platform provides a foundation for innovation enabling the addition of powerful digital solutions such as GE’s Navigator Application Suite-a decision support tool for the anesthesiologists. We are firmly committed to meeting and anticipating the needs of the evolving operating room environment Aisys and Navigator are two more examples of GE Healthcare’s focus on innovating to transform the anesthesia experience.”

Navigator: Steadfast anesthesia guidance
Navigator™ Applications Suite, supports anesthesia care providers as they make clinical decisions in anesthesia therapy.

Navigator Therapy is a smart technology that captures the information from your digital anesthesia Carestation and infusion devices, analyzes on-line the drug therapy information to model and predict the synergistic effect of supported anesthesia-related inhaled and intravenous agents and drugs. This helps clinicians to determine effective treatment for each patient and adjust administration as needed, based on access to actual and predicted expected synergistic drug effects.

Navigator Protocol centralizes a hospital’s own anesthesia care protocols at the point of need for immediate access and reference. Clinicians can consult their care protocols with immediate association to the vital sign information from the digital anesthesia monitoring & delivery system.

Navigator Device uses digital device information from the digital anesthesia monitoring & delivery system to troubleshoots technical problems in the anesthesia machine. It provides on-line specific step- by-step instructions on how to resolve a device issue.

“Navigator Application Suite, has been developed through GE Healthcare’s in-depth research on the clinical needs with over 600 anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists around the world, ” said Mario Huyghe, General Manager, Anesthesia. “It is the first commercially available system showing on-line expected drug effects for supported inhaled and intravenous anesthetics, analgesics and relaxants and visualizing prediction of expected effect, based on synergistic pk/pd modeling during anesthesia. It gives the anesthesiologist a full view of his balanced anesthesia. Navigator Application Suite simplifies the complexities of several disparate devices into one interactive, knowledge-based system.”

LOGIQ e with Touchscreen: Scanning Just a Touch Away
GE also will be featuring one of its compact ultrasound systems, the LOGIQ® e Breakthrough 2009: the first ultrasound system to combine real-time clinical images and control capabilities on the same touchscreen user interface. The peripheral touchscreen monitor on an articulating arm provides clinicians with flexibility in their viewing angle for procedures. The touchscreen’s intuitive and simplified user interface has fewer controls, making it extremely easy to use. The benefits include:

· Helping clinicians focus less on controls to optimize images, and focus more on patients.
· Making training easier, decreasing the learning curve on the system, especially for new users.
· Providing a flat, touchscreen surface that is easy to clean and disinfect.
· Improving clinical workflow.

“The LOGIQ e touchscreen controls are intuitively obvious,” said Jeffrey Swenson, M.D., professor and director of anesthesia for the orthopedic center at the University of Utah. “This makes it user friendly, even for new ultrasound users and for support staff to assist during the procedure. I think it's easier to focus on the patient and the image. There's less distraction with the controls--you don't have to be looking back and forth.”

“I think the position of the touchscreen’s articulating arm makes this more friendly ergonomically. What I have done is - lean over the bed and adjust the controls. Now, I just touch the screen right in front of me,” Swenson said.

“The breadth of GE’s leadership allows for the convergence of technologies in anesthesia care, as we see with our touchscreen ultrasound technology designed for the operating room,” said Leclercq. “GE is committed to breakthroughs in anesthesia care to enhance critical patient care and to expand the performance of our integrated perioperative systems.”
