Walmart Announces Generic Lipitor® (Atorvastatin Calcium Tablets) Available in Stores Today

( - BENTONVILLE, Ark., Dec. 1, 2011 -- Walmart (NYSE: WMT) announced today the availability of atorvastatin calcium tablets in all Walmart and Sam's Club pharmacies immediately for patients with valid prescriptions. The all-new generic substitute of the brand name drug better known as Lipitor® provides a more affordable medication option for the millions of Americans who need to lower their cholesterol due to heart disease or are at risk for developing heart disease. Walmart is one of the first retailers to offer the authorized generic version of Lipitor, allowing Americans to get the same quality, effective drug for a lesser price.

"Offering generic Lipitor® immediately at an everyday low price is another example of Walmart's commitment to helping our customers save money and live better, especially those who are struggling with the spiraling cost of health care in America and are often on a fixed income," said John Agwunobi, M.D., M.B.A, M.P.H., senior vice president & president of Walmart U.S. Health & Wellness.

The Humana Walmart-Preferred Rx Plan (PDP) is another way customers can save money on their prescriptions. Enrollment in Medicare Part D plans for 2012 ends December 7, 2011. This is the second year Humana and Walmart are offering the Humana Walmart-Preferred Rx Plan (PDP)to seniors and people with disabilities. It is the PDP with the lowest premium in 2012* at $15.10/month throughout all 50 states and Washington DC. Since its launch last year, more than one million people have enrolled in this plan.
