(HealthNewsDigest.com) - ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – (June 12, 2012) – According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 2.5 million people were living here when the nation first became independent. Today, there are nearly 314 million and counting. As the nation celebrates its independence this summer, over $232 million will be spent on fireworks. While fireworks are a fun part of the celebration, they are just one component of an amazing Fourth of July party.
“What better way to celebrate the independence of our great nation than with an amazing backyard party?” asks Chef Scott Jenkins, the executive chef at Arlington-based Extra Virgin restaurant. “Whether a party turns out to be awesome or a disappointment largely depends on the thought that is put into it, prior to the big day.”
Here are some tips for putting together an amazing Fourth of July party this summer:
Plan ahead. Taking the time to plan the party out ahead of time is going to make a big difference in how it turns out. Brainstorm some ideas, make a timeline for pulling the party off, and determine what all it will include.
Practice safety. There are a lot of safety issues when it comes to having a Fourth of July party. From food safety to firework safety, and even safe driving once the party is over, keeping it safe is key to making sure everyone enjoys the party.
Focus on intimate. Rather than inviting a lot of people, which will increase the stress and work, focus on inviting a small group of people you enjoy being around. This will maximize a fun and memorable experience.
Keep it simple. Rather than elaborate meals, keep the whole party simple. Offer BBQ favorites, order pizza, or have a potluck, so that everyone brings their favorite backyard BBQ dish.
Offer activities. Waiting around for the fireworks display can get taxing, especially for children. Have some activities that both the adults and children can engage in, such as horseshoes, bocce ball, volleyball, and a slip n’ slide.
“Following these tips will ensure that your party is amazing,” adds Chef Jenkins. “It will be a small party, with people you are close to. There will be a lot of fun, good food, and plenty of laughs – all the things that an amazing Fourth of July party should have.”
