COUPLES TELL HARROWING STORY ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - Hollywood, CA – February 1, 2011 - A lifesaving story that captured the world’s attention comes to an emotional conclusion with the first time meeting of the Missouri and Australian couples brought together through the online word game Words with Friends® and now by the Emmy Award-winning syndicated series THE DOCTORS (check local listings) on Thursday, February 2.

THE DOCTORS flew both couples to Los Angeles for a surprise meeting. In the episode, each couple separately recounts the distressing details of the story that led them to the moment when their lives would forever be intertwined.

Missouri resident Beth Legler first virtually met Queensland, Australia’s Georgie and Simon Fletcher more than two years ago when she began playing Words with Friends. This past November, using the game’s chat feature, Georgie told Beth that her husband Simon wasn’t felling well. Beth asked Georgie to describe the symptoms and relayed them to her husband Larry, a doctor. Recognizing the potential for a dangerous heart attack, Larry quickly instructed the Fletchers to get to a hospital where doctors discovered Simon had a 99% blockage of the left main coronary artery. Doctors immediately performed emergency surgery on Larry, implanting two stents.

“Simon’s story is an inspiration and a testament to the power of social networking as well as the importance of recognizing basic health warning signs,” said Carla Pennington, executive producer of THE DOCTORS. “The mission of THE DOCTORS is to empower people with necessary information to make the best choices when it comes to their health. We hope this story reminds viewers to take control and learn the warning signs of not only heart disease, but many other health issues that impact the lives of their families and friends.”

With heart disease as the number one killer of people around the world, ER physician and co-host, Dr. Travis Stork outlines for viewers the telltale signs of an impending heart attack and reveals the extraordinary x-ray images of Simon’s blocked artery.
