(HealthNewsDigest.com) - Democratic lawmakers may be tempted to vote against the health-care overhaul plan pending in Congress because it remains unpopular with a broad swath of the public. But a new poll suggests that those who do so risk further dispiriting their core supporters ahead of November mid-term elections.

The Wall Street Journal/NBC survey found that opinions have solidified around the health plan, with 48% calling it a "bad idea" and 36% viewing it as a "good idea." That gap is consistent with surveys dating to the fall.

The survey found that President Obama's job approval rating -- now at 48%, with 47% disapproving -- has remained steady since his precipitous drop last summer that coincided with rising public opposition to the health plan.
