Leader of country's first national humane organization

greatly expanded reach and scope of services to America's most vulnerable

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - WASHINGTON, D.C., July 8, 2016 - American Humane President and CEO Dr. Robin Ganzert received SmartCEO Magazine's Brava Award at a sold-out awards ceremony last night at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The awards are designed to celebrate the achievements of the capital's top women leaders, and she and the other winners will be profiled in the July/August issue of SmartCEO magazine.

"Brava winners possess the hallmark qualities of successful leaders - vision, passion, compassion, dedication, perseverance. Each winner in this year's class exhibits these qualities in all facets of her life, from running her business to tending to her family and donating time and resources to philanthropic initiatives," said Jaime Nespor-Zawmon, president of SmartCEO. "We are honored to recognize a group of women who are truly making a difference in the world."

Expanding growth and reach of a historic organization

Under Ganzert's leadership, American Humane, which for nearly 140 years has been at the forefront of virtually every major advance in the compassion movement, has expanded its programmatic reach by some 1,000 percent. The organization now positively touches some 42,000 lives per minute, helping create a more humane world by rescuing animals caught in disasters and cruelty situations, helping ensure the welfare of hundreds of millions of farm animals, working to save more of the 6-8 million animals in the nation's shelters, protecting animals in entertainment, and building on its 100-year legacy of helping active-duty military, military families, and military animals.

To fund services so more may be helped, Dr. Ganzert has worked to increase revenues and maximize fiscal responsibility.  Revenues have grown by 54 percent in just the past three years and the organization currently spends 84 cents out of every dollar raised directly on programs - a cost ratio significantly higher than that of other national humane groups. Because of its outstanding stewardship, American Humane Association has earned the Independent Charities of America's "Seal of Excellence," awarded to fewer than five percent of the nation's more than one million charities; a GuideStar USA "Gold" rating, demonstrating deep commitment to nonprofit transparency and accountability; the rank of "Top-Rated Charity" from CharityWatch (one of only 600 charities nationwide to earn this honor); and membership in the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance for meeting all 20 standards for charity accountability.

"In a city with so many remarkable female organizational leaders doing so much good, I am deeply honored to receive this Brava Award," said Dr. Ganzert. "Thank you to my American Humane colleagues, board members and volunteers for working so hard alongside me to advance the cause of compassion. This award is one I share with all of you."

About the Brava Awards

The Brava Awards program celebrates high-impact female business leaders in three categories: CEOs, Executive Directors of Nonprofits, and C-suite executives. Brava award winners combine their irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for giving back to the community, and are exemplary leaders of both their companies and their communities. They encourage local philanthropy,
mentor up-and-coming leaders and set their companies on the path to tremendous growth. Each year, an independent committee of local business leaders selects winners based on company growth, community impact and mentoring. SmartCEO shares their inspiring stories in SmartCEO magazine and celebrates their success at their high-energy awards gala.
