(HealthNewsDigest.com) - New York, NY - As the summer comes to a close, men no longer need to worry about going shirtless at the pool or beach. But what happens when your problem area is located in one of the “top” visible places, the tip of your head? Whether blaming genetics, stress, diet or other external factors, it doesn’t change the mere fact that more and more men and women are experiencing thinning hair. Most recently, even celebrities like Justin Bieber have vocalized opinions on hair loss, publicly criticizing Prince William for not taking action to prevent his receding hairline. And with August as National Hair Loss Month, it is a topic we just can’t ignore.

According to the American Hair Loss Association, by the age of 35 two-thirds of American men will experience some degree of appreciable hair loss, and by the age of 50 approximately 85 percent of men have significantly thinning hair. It’s no wonder that the hair restoration industry is rapidly growing. However, with numerous procedures and products on the market, how do you determine what’s best and how do you restore your hairline to ‘bring sexy back’?

“Millions of men and women worldwide seek solutions for hair loss,” says La Jolla triple-board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Chaffoo. “A noticeable receding hairline can seriously affect your self-esteem and impact your quality of life. Thankfully, advances in hair restoration technology are changing the game.”

Dr. Chaffoo sees patients concerned with hair loss on a regular basis and now offers state-of-the-art NeoGraft Automated Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Implantation Hair Transplant System at his practice. What differentiates NeoGraft from other treatments? It eliminates the linear scars, sutures or staples, which are often associated with the strip method of other hair grafting procedures currently being offered. Recovery is dramatically shortened and the overall procedure is much less invasive than the other older methods of hair replacement surgery. “The overall result is that one can do a much larger volume of grafts in one setting than could be accomplished previously,” explains Dr. Chaffoo. “With NeoGraft, one can transplant up to several thousand, versus several hundred, grafts at one setting. The procedure also cuts the cost of treatments, reducing the need for additional surgeries.”

Furthermore, it is a great solution for many women who suffer from hair loss in other areas. “Hair loss can occur with poorly performed plastic surgery associated with brow lifts and facelifts,” adds Dr. Chaffoo. “NeoGraft can reconstruct and restore a youthful hairline as well as camouflage scars by placing grafted hairs within the scars. It can also be used to reconstruct eyebrows.”

How does NeoGraft work?
The NeoGraft FUE Hair Transplant device first uses a motorized punch that gently rotates around each individual graft in perfectly cylindrical shapes. The rotation of the punch is adjusted and customized for different skin types, based on each patients need. The device then uses a controlled pneumatic pressure, or suction, to slide out the follicles smoothly and uniformly. Resulting in no pulling and twisting as with forceps, which typically puts the follicle at risk for damage. The suction strength is also customized for each patient based in his/her skin type.

Specifically, the grafts are extracted from the donor area in a uniform manner, permitting the implantation of the graft to remain the same size and shape once in place on the treated site. The grafts are collected, stored and misted with sterile saline until ready to be implanted. The grafts are then inserted into the recipient site with the NeoGraft controlled pneumatic pressure implantation hand piece, which ensures an even and smooth process.
“The NeoGraft System harvests up to 600 grafts per hour allowing for a quick and less costly procedure,” explains Dr. Chaffoo.

Is there any scarring?
NeoGraft is the first FDA-approved minimally invasive automated hair transplant system, resulting in a natural look with no scarring. Since no scalpels or sutures are needed for the procedure, it leaves a patient with no scarring or stitches and a more natural hairline. “Patients seldom have to customize hair length to cover scars, as often done with other hair replacement surgery methods,” adds Dr. Chaffoo.

What is the recovery time following NeoGraft?
NeoGraft technology allows a quick and efficient process with a quick recovery time. Only local anesthetic is required and no intravenous or intra-muscular sedation is needed. As no scalpel incision and sutures are used, patients experience minimal discomfort. Unlike other surgical hair restoration methods, the hair follicles experience less irritation.
