(HealthNewsDigest.com) - If your New Year's resolution list included: volunteer more, connect with nature, give back to our public lands, meet people with like-minded interests, or have more fun, American Hiking Society's Volunteer Vacations provide you the opportunity to check-off those resolutions with ease.
The 2010 trip schedule makes it easier than ever for hikers, trail enthusiasts and volunteers of all ages to get out and give back, offering more than 60 trail maintenance projects in 26 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. "As Americans grow more concerned about the health of their finances and the environment, Volunteer Vacations are a great, inexpensive way to see the country while doing something good for the earth and for the soul," said Gregory Miller, American Hiking Society President.
Volunteer Vacations are typically week-long trail building projects on America's public lands. Each crew consists of 6-15 volunteers accompanied by an experienced crew leader. Trips range from easy to very-strenuous and offer both backpacking and daypacking options. Families can enjoy front-country projects and cabin stays, while those looking for a more physically challenging trip can experience nature by hiking into base camp. Tools, food, and project supervision are included and most trips do not require prior experience. All trips provide free time to explore the surrounding landscape, hike, or enjoy the cultural offerings of nearby attractions.
Entering its fourth decade of stewardship, Volunteer Vacations continues to offer participants one of the most affordable, fulfilling ways to explore and improve our nation's recreational trails. Join us as we enter a new decade of protection, partnership, and promise.
Get Out. Give Back.
