( - Bee pollen is a unique substance that has often been touted as a type of ‘superfood’. It is basically balls of pollen collected from bees that they pick up from flowers and then carry back to their hive.

Over the years bee pollen has grown to be a popular type of supplement due to its high nutritional value. All in all it contains no less than 28 minerals, 27 vitamins and amino acids, 11 enzymes, and 24 fatty acids, but it needs to be processed to break down the cellulose walls that are present in its natural state so that its full nutritional value can be unlocked.

Considering how high in nutrition it is, it should come as no surprise that bee pollen has many notable health benefits. In particular it can help to:

  • Relieve inflammation

Studies have shown that bee pollen is effective to help relieve inflammation – and is comparable to some anti-inflammatory drugs. As such it can help to treat various inflammatory conditions or liver disease.

  • Act as an antioxidant

Some of the enzymes in bee pollen have antioxidant properties and can help counteract oxidants from smoke and air pollution and provide benefits for various diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. Its antioxidant properties are similar to fermented food.

  • Strengthen immune system

Due to its nutritional content, bee pollen provides a very natural boost to the immune system. Additionally it has also been found to have antiviral, antimicrobial, and antifungal properties that make it particularly good at fighting off bacterial or viral infections.

  • Improve blood circulation

One of the other interesting properties of bee pollen is that it can help to improve blood circulation throughout the body. The improved blood circulation to the nervous system can in turn help to reduce stress and tiredness, whereas elsewhere it will help to speed up the healing process – especially considering its anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Alleviating menopausal symptoms

Some studies have shown that bee pollen honey (i.e. a combination of bee pollen and honey) can help to alleviate the menopausal symptoms caused by antihormonal treatments that are used in breast cancer patients. It has also been suggested that bee pollen honey would help relieve postmenopausal symptoms, especially when other alternatives have failed to provide relief.

It is due to these numerous benefits that bee pollen can be found either as standalone supplements such as Nature Bee Australia, or as an ingredient in other supplements. Generally it is safe for most people, but it would still be a good idea to seek medical advice – particularly if you’re pregnant, on medication, or have certain allergies that may be triggered.

All in all the nutritional value of bee pollen coupled with its other properties make it an extremely valuable supplement that could help you in numerous ways. Even if you don’t suffer from any specific issues that would require you to take it, it could help to improve your overall health and prevent illnesses – making it worth looking into at very least.
