"The balloon sinuplasty procedure is a new and novel approach to the treatment of sinus problems. It minimizes trauma to the tissues and improves the ventilation and drainage of the sinuses," says Dr. Pritikin. "For patients with chronic sinus issues, the procedure improves airflow into and out of the sinuses, decreases mucus accumulation within the sinuses and improves the delivery of medications into the sinuses. It's a procedure with the ability to dramatically improve everyday life for chronic sinus sufferers."
To complete the procedure, Dr. Pritikin introduces a balloon catheter into the sinus and the balloon is gradually inflated in order to gently restructure the blocked area of the nasal passage. The device remodels the opening of the bone and allows it to heal in that position. This promotes aeration and drainage with minimal discomfort, almost no bleeding, and very little recovery time.
Other than a CT scan, the procedure requires no special testing or preparation and can be done in-office in about 30-45 minutes. There is no bruising or facial swelling and since the procedure only requires a small amount of local anesthetic, no one needs to accompany the patient to the procedure.
"The procedure is safe and effective. In fact, additional research found that 95% of patients treated with balloon sinuplasty experienced improvements in their sinus problems," continues Dr. Pritikin.
Patients are available to discuss their experiences with balloon sinuplasty. For more information on this topic or to schedule an interview with Dr. Jordan Pritikin, please contact me directly.
