(HealthNewsDigest.com) - People think of “spring cleaning” as cleaning their house. But if you want to be healthy, you should also clean that which houses your consciousness—your body. Spring and summer are an excellent time to go on a cleansing diet. Unless you live in a pristine environment and have been eating only raw organic food all your life, your body has accumulated a wide variety of toxic chemicals that are keeping you from your full health potential.

There are several ways to go about this. Water fasting is the most radical way to detox, but this is too harsh for most people (more on that later). However, a juice diet is something most people can do. You need to get a juicer to make your own fresh juice, since even the pure juices you can buy are usually flash pasteurized, which destroys the enzymes (unless you buy it from a juice bar, of course). Since bottled and packaged juices are not fresh, most of the nutrients have also been destroyed. What you want to do is provide your body with supreme nutrition in the form which will require the least amount of digestive work, which is freshly squeezed juice.

One way to ease into a juice diet is to go on fresh organic fruits, vegetables and greens for a few days before (though young health people may prefer to jump right into juicing.) It might be best to start your juice-only diet on the weekend when you don’t have to work. The first two days of doing only juices can be difficult if you are a middle aged person who has eaten an average diet high in cooked processed foods. You might feel weak or go through some detoxification symptoms such as headaches or fatigue. Other detox symptoms can include irritability, foul breath and body odor, shakiness, sensitivity to cold, diarrhea, weight loss and more.

Most healthy people find that they can work after they have been juicing for a few days. If you find that you simply cannot keep working, it might be best to eat something---consuming only raw organic fruits, vegetables and greens will keep the detox up, but slow it down enough that you should be able to go about your daily activities. People who are infested with yeast from overconsumption of sugars, starches and antibiotics (which would include the average person nowadays!) should avoid even sweet fruits during a detox because sugar feeds the yeast that we want to starve. After a few days of eating raw organic solids, you can ease your way back into the juices.

A more radical approach is fasting on water only. This can be very drastic for the average person. It is not recommended to do this if you have to go to work. This is also not advisable for people taking medications, as the toxins from the drugs may affect a person even more if they are fasting. Unless very healthy, most people should not fast on only water for more than three days without a holistic doctor to supervise. Even those who do opt for brief water fasts find it easier if they ease into it by juice dieting first, and gradually diluting the juices with purified water till it is only water. People with cancer or diabetes are advised never to fast on water only.
When you eat lightly on raw organic fruits, vegetables and greens (or their juices), the energy used for digestion is freed up and can be redirected toward cleansing the toxic buildup. With sufficient energy reserves, your body can heal itself at the cellular level and repair and rebuild cells, tissues, and organs.

You should help your colon cleanse itself by taking psyllium husk, bentonite clay, and colon cleansing herbs which can be found at your local health grocery or online. Colonics will help and you should get them every few days (especially at first) if you can afford them. Your colonic therapist can also help you decide which colon cleansing herbs to purchase. If you can’t afford colonics, you can get an enema kit to do at home. This is crucial because you want to be sure to eliminate the toxins that are being released into your system.

While cleansing, you should free yourself from stressful situations as much as possible, and nurture yourself with warm baths, body scrubbing to remove dead skin, walks in nature, healing music, and most important, plenty of rest and sleep.
You will find the first few days hardest. Then detoxification goes in waves. These episodes of feeling bad are interspersed with periods of natural highs that eventually stabilize and (if you retain a clean diet and lifestyle) become the permanent condition: clear-headed, euphoric well-being accompanied by physiological peace unlike anything experienced in recent years or past decades.

Homeopathic pioneer Samuel Hahnemann, MD (1755–1843), observed that healing tends to proceed in reverse order from when the symptoms first appeared. Consider all the exogenous toxins of food-generated residues, the endogenous toxins of poor food combining and the ingested, absorbed and inhaled environmental pollutants, as well as drugs taken. These toxins are all retained and build up when there is an energy crisis in a toxic body. They typically detoxify in reverse order from when they were either taken into the body or created within the body and then accumulated.

In other words, you will probably detoxify from the lactic acid created from this afternoon’s exercise routine before the toxins created and stored from last month’s poorly combined meal. You will probably detoxify from the hamburger you ate yesterday before the grilled steak you ate last July.
After a week or two on a juice diet, you will feel wonderful. How you break into eating is critical. You want to gradually introduce raw organic produce since your digestive system has been resting. You can get very ill if you break a liquid diet with meat, for example! (One man who broke a long water fast with meat and potatoes died!) Breaking a juice diet should be gentle and slow.

You will feel so alive, you will not want to go back to the foods and lifestyle that poisoned you. Why would you work so hard to get your house sparkly clean and then let a bunch of wild animals come in and trash it, tracking mud all over the floor? Detoxify enough and you will feel better than you have since you were a kid. You will lose the temptation to go back to old habits.

The way to continue detoxifying without losing too much weight is to go on a 100% (or nearly so) raw organic food diet. The pace is speediest while eating 100% raw. The pace of detox proceeds more slowly when you are only partially raw. Even when you are eating merely 5% cooked food, the process slows down. The body has to work at detoxifying the newly ingested cooked food. There are numerous studies proving that cooking food creates toxic byproducts.

So if you stay 100% or mostly all-raw and provide all the other conditions for superlative health, your body will eventually rid itself of virtually all toxins accumulated ever since infancy — the more raw the better! After revitalization, the processes of detoxification, renewal, repair and biochemical rebalancing take place simultaneously. The body’s healing intelligence is awesome!
It took decades to accumulate toxins from cooked food, drugs (both recreational and prescription) and environmental pollution (including most personal care and household cleaning products). So the cleansing isn’t going to happen over a few weeks.
Although it can never be proven scientifically, there is a simple rule of thumb. For every year of eating cooked food, you need a strict month of doing everything right. This means especially eating a nearly all, if not 100%, raw food diet and getting plenty of rest and sleep, exercising and getting adequate sunlight. The entire cleansing, renewal and healing process is greatly sped up by a period of fasting. Think of it as fast-ing.

The bulk of the detox process usually completes within weeks or months for most people who are more tired than toxic. Dr. Vivian Vetrano, who spent 50 years supervising thousands of fasts, estimates it could take more than a year for the seriously sick person who is exhausted, toxic and into latter stages of disease. For the very ill, the deepest levels of excretion of poisons and subsequent renewal can be expected to take years.
Even if you are not ambitious enough to stay 100% raw, a diet in which at least 80% of the calories are from raw foods goes a long way in preventing disease and maintaining a healthy, youthful body.
