( - WASHINGTON, March 18, 2014  -- In celebration of National Nutrition Month, the National Restaurant Association's Director of Nutrition & Healthy Living Joy Dubost, Ph.D., R.D. discusses the importance of breakfast in the latest video from the Ask the Nutritionist series.

In addition to its essential health benefits, studies show that children who eat breakfast have higher school attendance, do better in school by staying more alert, and have improved concentration resulting in higher overall test scores.

The National Restaurant Association's Kids LiveWell program includes several breakfast meal options in restaurants across the country. Participating restaurants and menu choices can be found on

All Kids LiveWell meals meet nutrition criteria of 600 calories or less; contain two or more servings of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and/or low-fat dairy; and limit sodium, unhealthy fats and sugar.

The Kids LiveWell program now has over 145 restaurants brands representing 42,000 locations nationwide, and has partnered with foodservice companies such as the Kellogg Company to work hand-in-hand with restaurants to incorporate products into healthful menu options.
