Kitchen Retrofit Tips for Homeowners this Fall

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - LOUISVILLE, KY — Cooler air and better ventilation create the right climate for a fall remodel. A Harvard study predicts that remodeling spending will increase 5 percent in 2010 over 2009.1 In fact, 85 percent of homeowners are planning some type of remodel within the next year.2
One of the most popular rooms for a remodel is the kitchen — partially because of its importance to potential home buyers. Given the number of appliances and electronics in this one room, it's also an ideal target for those looking to improve their home's efficiency.
"While most consumers don't have the $15,000-$26,000 in spare change to accommodate the average cost of a full kitchen remodel3, there are certainly ways to do it well on a budget," said Michael Starmer, merchandising manager, GE Appliances & Lighting. "The fall is typically also a great time for deals, promotions and rebates from appliance manufacturers."
Do-it-Yourself Weekend — Creating a Restaurant-Inspired Kitchen: Who said you can't redo your kitchen in a weekend? If your appliances are free-standing (i.e., you can fairly easily slide them in and out with some elbow grease and basic power tools), updating your kitchen has never been easier.
The GE Café™ series of restaurant-inspired appliances offers the robust styling of modern restaurant kitchens, combined with the latest technologies available to chefs — plus, they're easy to install and don't cost a fortune. With a coat of fresh paint and some new hardware for your cabinets, you can easily retrofit your kitchen in the span of a weekend.
This fall, GE will add the Advantium® above-the-cooktop oven — which cooks restaurant-quality food up to eight times faster than a traditional oven — to the GE Café suite of appliances. Rebates of up to $500 on GE Café kitchens will be available through Sept. 26, 2010.

Dramatic Style, Forward-Looking Innovation: Consumers looking to make a bold style statement with their kitchen may consider GE Profile™ appliances, which offer dramatic styling and cutting-edge technologies — from Advantium speedcook ovens, to the SmartDispense™ dishwasher that takes the guess-work out of washing dishes.
Offered in both free-standing and built-in configurations, GE Profile can help fall remodelers turn a dated kitchen into one of modern sophistication while accommodating a range of budget options. Speaking of budgets, consumers can get up to $1,000 in mail-in rebates on GE Profile™ appliances through Oct. 31, 2010.
Luxury has its Rewards: Owners of luxury homes — whether palatial mansions or Manhattan co-ops — have never had more options for creating a high-end GE Monogram® kitchen, which offers the look of distinguished sophistication and provides a culinary benchmark for at-home chefs.
Offered in both integrated styling and bold professional options, many Monogram appliances are now available in 30-inch (or smaller) configurations to accommodate modern city living. The suite will be complete early next year with the launch of the Monogram-brand 30-inch integrated refrigerators to complement 30-inch ranges, cooktops, ventilation hoods and wall-ovens already offered in Monogram.
Luxury certainly has its rewards this autumn, with $1,000 in instant rebates for the purchase of a Monogram professional range and hood or a Monogram wall oven, cooktop and hood. An additional $1,000 instant rebate is available when consumers add a Monogram built-in refrigerator. This rebate offer is available through March 31, 2011.

Giving your Kitchen a Coat of Green: With winter around the corner, efficiency is on the minds of many Americans. Giving your kitchen a coat of "green," with updated ENERGY STAR®-qualified appliances, may just be the style statement you're looking to make.
In addition to offering full range of ENERGY STAR® dishwashers and refrigerators, GE is also offering more efficient laundry products and water heaters. GE's new GeoSpring™ heat pump water heater was the first ENERGY STAR®-rated water heater and can save homeowners as much as $320 on annual energy bills.
With the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the federal government has made money available for the new state-run appliances rebate program. By applying to your state's rebate program, you might be eligible to receive rebates for new, more energy-efficient appliances. Plus, you can check for available rebates from your local utility company for even more savings.
