FDA Warns About Unproven Stem Cell Claims

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - SILVER SPRING, Md., Jan. 6, 2012 -- Stem cells therapies offer the potential to treat diseases or conditions that are currently incurable or for which few treatments exist.

But the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is concerned that the hope that patients have for elusive cures may leave them vulnerable to unscrupulous providers of certain stem cell treatments that are illegal and potentially harmful.

FDA cautions consumers to make sure any stem cell treatment they are considering has been reviewed or approved by the agency.
