Viva Florida! is geared toward illustrating this rich Spanish Colonial history through the 56-pg trail guide or interactive bilingual website. Some of the historic spots, including Mission San Luis, a 17th century village that archaeologists are uncovering from a previously untouched site. It is spectacular. www.missionsanluis.org. Pensacola has many historic sites and a full calendar year of events to celebrate its 450th Anniversary. And of course there's the official "oldest continuously-occupied US city", which is St. Augustine (not Jamestown or Plymouth, as popularly thought.) Many of the sites in the trail guide offer free ranger talks and interpretive guides (in period uniforms, recreated.) All of them are an easy drive from many of the Southern states and people who are accustomed to heading south to beaches and family.
