New Diet Drugs Must Pass Unique Test

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - Vivus Inc. Thursday will take a key step in gaining Food and Drug Administration approval of its experimental weight-loss drug Qnexa when it faces an agency panel of outside experts.

The advisory committee, which will recommend whether the agency should approve Qnexa later this year, should provide clues to how the agency will evaluate the latest crop of obesity treatments, a risky and potentially lucrative area that hasn't seen a new treatment in the U.S. since 1999.
