Does Love Make Us Fat?

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., -- Recently, the weight-loss experts at eDiets surveyed members to find out if being in a relationship grew their waistlines as well as their hearts.
The answer was overwhelmingly yes.
The majority of respondents said they've had to buy bigger clothes since getting together with their significant others. An overwhelming three-quarters of those surveyed said it was easier to maintain a diet when single, and a similar percent found it more tempting to eat bad foods with their partners.
But the survey of about 1,550 people showed some surprisingly positive information as well. The majority of those surveyed by eDiets staff said they felt a healthy relationship was very important, and that their partners were supportive of their healthier habits.
"The good news is that the survey shows that a healthy relationship and healthy eating habits can go hand-in-hand," says eDiets Director of Nutrition Services Pam Ofstein. "As it should! Take the support of your partner and commit to each other to build a healthier, stronger relationship and lifestyle."
"Enjoy a long walk together and take time to talk about important things, including eating healthy and how you can help each other get to a healthy weight," Ofstein suggests. She recommends getting your partner involved and showing them how important this is to you.
For eDiets member Nancy, who lost 65 pounds so far on the eDiets Glycemic Impact Diet, this involvement didn't happen overnight. "Once my husband realized that I was really invested in this process, it was like he flipped a switch," Nancy remembers. "Now he notices my hard work and encourages me in a way that works for both of us. He's been right there encouraging me all the way. And when I have had struggles, he's never said a negative thing about it."
