(HealthNewsDigest.com) - “The focus on health care in President Obama’s budget highlights the importance the administration places on health system reform, and the AMA applauds that commitment.

“All Americans should have health insurance and high quality, affordable health care, regardless of employment or health status. Proposed investments in prevention and wellness, quality improvements, and training to address health professional workforce shortages are down-payments on a healthier nation.

“President Obama’s budget proposal takes a huge step forward to ensure that physicians can care for seniors by rejecting planned Medicare physician payment cuts of 40 percent over the next decade. Looming widespread physician shortages coupled with aging baby boomers highlight the urgent need for permanent Medicare physician payment system reform to preserve seniors’ access to health care.

“The AMA is committed to working with the administration and Congress to develop reforms that will reward and preserve access to high-quality care for seniors and all Americans.”
