(HealthNewsDigest.com) - NEW YORK, Sept. 20, 2012 -- Kids Foot Locker is promoting its "Keep Kids Fit" campaign in-stores nationwide and on its e-commerce site, www.kidsfootlocker.com, in support of the American Heart Association, from now through October 2, 2012. Kids Foot Locker encourages customers to donate $1 to the American Heart Association to support its important goal to "Keep Kids Fit." Participating customers will receive an information card with helpful "fit tips" on how to keep kids physically active and heart-healthy. The donation will support the American Heart Association's "Hoops For Hearts" and "Jump Rope For Heart" programs that teach kids heart health and community service.

"At Kids Foot Locker, we strongly believe that getting kids to be active early on will lead to an overall healthier lifestyle," said Jed Berger, Vice President, Brand Marketing for Kids Foot Locker. "With the American Heart Association, we are able to give our customers practical and fun tips on how to get kids and the whole family moving together."

"Childhood obesity is a growing health concern in the U.S. with nearly one in three children between ages 2 and 19 being obese. Encouraging an active lifestyle at an early age will help prevent health problems later in life and keep kids healthy as they develop," said Dr. Robert Eckel, former AHA President and Professor of Medicine at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. "Moreover, growing up being physically active may set a heart-healthy pattern for the adult years to follow," said Eckel.

Kids Foot Locker will also distribute information to parents promoting children's wellness and good health to its VIP loyalty club members and Facebook fans as part of its fit and health initiative.
