(HealthNewsDigest.com) - Wilmington, DE, September 18, 2013 - KidsHealth.org, the #1 most-visited website devoted to children's health, and FlickerLab Animation Studios have relaunched How the Body Works, a popular series of free, online movies for kids.
The eight new How the Body Works movies are HDTV-quality animated programs targeting school-age children that explain complicated body parts in an entertaining and engaging way. Featuring the animated characters Chloe & the Nurb, the 5-minute movies reinforce educational points through humor, song, and repetition. The eight new movies, in both English and Spanish, cover the following topics: Ears, Eyes, Nose, Tongue, Teeth, Skin, Nails, and Hair.
Equal parts Magic School Bus and Monty Python, the series is set in fantastical Bodylandia, where giant eyeballs stride across the landscape, floating noses trumpet daily, and Chloe and the Nurb dive with verve into intestines, ear canals, toenails, and organs in between.
"Children have lots of questions about how their bodies work and now they have a uniquely entertaining way to get the answers. We know Chloe and the Nurb will help kids understand their bodies and inspire them to live healthy lives," says Neil Izenberg, MD, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of KidsHealth.
A favorite with teachers and students, the KidsHealth How the Body Works series already receives more than 1 million visits a year. The new movies are the centerpieces of a suite of content that includes quizzes and printable activities. Nine additional Chloe and the Nurb movies are expected in early 2014.
"How the Body Works is not just informational videos. They're catchy, fun, entertaining, and powerful," says Brock Tracy, Health and Wellness Teacher at Wayne Elementary School in Wayne, PA. "Students can't help but learn valuable health knowledge."
For a limited time, the Nurb will be answering kids' questions about the human body! Kids can submit their questions online, or have a parent or teacher email a video of the child asking their excellent question. Nurb will pick the best questions and give an animated answer through KidsHealth.org.
So far, more then 1,000 kids have submitted their questions to Nurb, including:
- What happens to my blood when I get a cut?
- Where do freckles come from?
- Why do feet always smell bad?
- What is a cell?
- What is the gold bladder?
