Though colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer, it is the third most common cancer in both men and women. To combat this, the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation encourages families to share their health histories this Father's Day and help individuals understand their risks. The Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation suggests following these guidelines: -- Get the facts. -- Talk to your family. Those with certain genetic mutations have a lifetime risk of colon cancer of up to 80 percent, and they are often those with a family history of colon cancer. -- Talk to your doctor. -- Get screened. "Colorectal cancer can be highly treatable due to advances in screening and detection procedures," said Dr. Thomas K. Weber, MD, FACS, President of the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation. "This Father's Day, we encourage everyone to put on your favorite necktie to raise awareness of this disease and show your support of those fighting it today.
