LONG LIFE: Prolonging the Productive, Fulfilling Lives of Women: A Survival Strategy

(HealthNewsDigest.com) - People have been searching for immortality since history was first recorded – from the ancient Egyptians to the early explorers’ pursuit of the Fountain of Youth to Cryonics – humans have continuously sought ways of extending life. But in this age of rapidly advancing technology, the idea of living decades longer than ever before is becoming more than just a dream; an outright revolution against aging is upon us.

Breakthroughs in knowledge about the cells that make up our bodies are bringing about new ways to keep the cells healthy, and stop disease before irreversible harm is done. Scientists are only recently beginning to realize that the concept of immortal living cells is not only possible, but also true. The ability to alter the lifespan of a cell – to keep cells that would normally die alive - can radically change your life and health, and will have a major effect on our lifespan.

Soon it will become possible to decrease the incidence of the serious diseases that traditionally occur as we age – including heart disease, stroke, and cancer. When these diseases do occur, it will often be possible to manage them as chronic conditions for long periods of time. What you can expect from your doctor will change. In medicine, doctors are progressing beyond the point of making people “feel better about themselves”, and “look their best”, to actually being able to offer people longer, more productive lives.

In the groundbreaking new book, LONG LIFE: Prolonging the Productive, Fulfilling Lives of Women: A Survival Strategy (Morgan James Publishing; May 2008), Dr. Ronald M. Caplan presents a new way of thinking about life and health – one that will make it possible for women to live much longer than we’ve ever imagined possible.

Worldwide life expectancy has increased by about 20 to 25 years between 1950 and 2000, and the senior population aged 60 and beyond is projected to increase by more than 50% over the next fifty years. In his book, Dr. Caplan reports on the current research of aging and describes medical breakthroughs that will make it completely possible for a woman to reach the seemingly unbelievable age of one hundred and thirty seven years.

To even begin to achieve this, however, a woman needs a survival strategy, and Dr. Caplan offers a comprehensive one that every woman can follow in his new book. He provides a prescription for life that will ensure that our bodies can survive – and thrive - into such advanced age.

Beyond the general topics of proper nutrition and fitness, for which Dr. Caplan gives detailed guidelines, he also addresses every other obstacle that could stand in the way of a woman’s long life expectancy. These topics include the diseases of aging, sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy complications, and genetic makeup. He offers prevention methods and treatment options, as well as addresses the physical, mental, and social concerns that arise as a woman grows older and advises how to cope with them.

Combining extensive medical research and practical guidelines, LONG LIFE is a prescriptive book that is must-read for any female looking to have a long and healthful existence. Dr. Caplan has given us the blueprint that will enable generations of women to survive to an age we never dreamed possible.
