According to Dr. Daniel C. Morello, plastic surgeon and Medical Director of Anushka Cosmedical Centre in the Palm Beaches (www.anushkaspa.com), “A Mommy Makeover may involve a combination of procedures to improve the contour of the breasts as well as the body, consisting of the waist, hips, abdomen, buttocks and thighs. It is not uncommon to have a breast lift with a tummy tuck in one stage.” Most plastic surgeons will want to wait at least three to six months after new mothers have finished breast feeding to accurately determine their post pregnancy size and shape. If you feel that your breasts are sagging, a breast lift may be the best option. If your breasts are sagging and smaller than you would like, breast augmentation using an implant or fat grafting can correct minor sagging. If your breasts are very saggy and deflated, a breast lift with an implant and/or fat grafts can be done at the same time. For the abdomen, if your muscles are taut and your skin has retained good elasticity, liposuction may be the best option to reduce fatty bulges of the upper and lower abdomen, hips and waist. Adding laser technologies to fat removal with laser lipolysis systems such as Lipotherme by Osyris, SlimLip® by Palomar and others, can be a good choice for a new mom with small amounts of loose skin post baby. If the problem is severely sagging skin with stretch marks and/or muscle laxity, a full or partial abominoplasty or tummy tuck may give you the best result. It is usually recommended that you wait until you have finished having children to undertake breast lifts, breast reductions or tummy tucks, since these procedure involve skin excision and are typically done only once. Multiple childbirths and aging can also cause vaginal muscles to loosen, tear, and weaken. The diameter of the vagina may stretch; there can be a loss of sensation, incontinence and discomfort during intercourse. Vaginal rejuvenation can take the form of vaginoplasty (vaginal rejuvenation and tightening), and labiaplasty (labia reduction and enhancement). Cosmetic labiaplasty involves surgically reshaping the labia or improving the appearance of asymmetrical or deflated labia. A laser can be also used for labiaplasty and vaginoplasty surgery, to enhance vaginal muscle tone, decrease the vaginal diameter, and strengthen the opening otherwise known as the birth canal. No single approach to a mommy makeover is right for every woman. It is best to see several board certified plastic surgeons in consultation after your baby (not while you are still pregnant) to customize a program for you in the most effective and safe manner.
